The Hive
Introducing the Hive Office Building, a remarkable 10-storey mass timber structure located in Vancouver, BC. This impressive building project commenced construction in the fall of 2022. Standing tall at 43 meters, the structure boasts nine floors of mass timber construction positioned above a sturdy concrete podium, accompanied by four levels of below-grade concrete parking. The timber gravity structure is ingeniously designed with 9-ply cross laminated timber floor panels, expertly supported by dropped perimeter glulam beams and flush interior steel beams. This innovative combination of materials ensures both strength and aesthetic appeal.

Alberni by Kengo Kuma – 1568 Alberni St.
The Alberni project, designed by esteemed Japanese architect Kengo Kuma , displays a distinct shape influenced by its surrounding environment. This 43-storey tower features two pronounced scoops that elegantly form spacious balconies adorned with wooden furnishings. The carvings not only enhance their connection to the street and surrounding views, but also create semi-enclosed areas that optimize the project’s urban and geographic context. By optimizing neighboring views and incorporating the local surroundings, the Alberni project truly exemplifies a harmonious integration of design and environment.

Richmond Ice Centre – Scan to BIM
The Richmond Ice Centre is part of the Riverport Sports and Entertainment complex located just off Highway 99, via exit 32, Steveston Highway east. The recreational facility in Richmond, B.C., includes six NHL-size hockey rinks, 24 dressing rooms, two meeting rooms, offices, a restaurant/bar, concession stand, sporting goods store, and various technical and mechanical spaces– and its architect required Van Bower to complete 3D scans of the entire facility, interior, and exterior.

B6 Office Tower Bentall GreenOak
The 32-storey 1090 West Pender Office Tower is strategically situated at the intersection of West Pender and Thurlow Ave in Vancouver. It serves as a solution to address the current shortage of office space in the city’s business market. This impressive architectural marvel features a comprehensive range of amenities, including six levels of underground parking, a three-level retail podium, spacious office floors, and multiple outdoor terraces. Notably, the large rooftop terrace offers a panoramic view of the entire downtown core, enhancing this building’s appeal as an ideal workspace.

Highway 17 Keating Cross Overpass Project
The project aims to improve traffic flow and safety at the intersection of the northbound left turn onto Keating Cross Road. This will be achieved by replacing the current setup with a “flyover” overpass, eliminating the need for turning across busy highway traffic and reducing congestion. Highway 1 – McKenzie Interchange
The McKenzie Interchange Project is a grade-separated interchange located on the Trans-Canada Highway at the intersection with Admirals Road and McKenzie Avenue in Saanich. Previously, this intersection had been the primary bottleneck in the province outside of the Lower Mainland. However, thanks to the construction of the new interchange, safety has been significantly enhanced, and traffic congestion has been greatly reduced. This improvement benefits drivers, transit users, pedestrians, and cyclists alike.

First Nations Health Authority Administration Office
The First Nations Health Authority Administration Building (FNHA) was constructed primarily of mass timber in Metro Vancouver. The 5-story facility, located on the Tsleil-Waututh Nation land in North Vancouver pays homage to the Coast Salish people. The design is inspired by the plank house tradition and built of glue-laminated timber (glulam) beams and cross-laminated timber (CLT) floor and roof panels.

2021 B.C. Highway Flood Recovery Projects
The BC flooding in November 2021 was characterized by a series of atmospheric river events that led to an immense influx of water in the southwestern region of the province. The resulting flood caused catastrophic damage, including the destruction of major bridges and the submersion of large sections of highways into rivers. Impacting over 300 sites on Highways 1, 3, 5, 7, 8, 11, 19, and 99, the water damage varied in severity from minor infrastructure loss to complete devastation.

Fraser Valley Highway 1 Corridor Improvement Program
The Fraser Valley’s Highway 1 plays a crucial role as a major transportation route, serving over 80,000 daily commuters and facilitating the movement of goods worth $65 billion annually. To address congestion and promote sustainable transport, an expansion project is underway. This program aims to widen the existing highway, adding 4 lanes in each direction from the 202nd interchange to Vedder Canal. The project will be implemented in five phases over multiple years to successfully accomplish this significant undertaking.

Oakridge Centre Redevelopment
The Oakridge Redevelopment project encompasses preconstruction and construction services aimed at transforming the existing mall into a mixed-use development. The project’s objectives include doubling the size of the mall to 1.4 million square feet, constructing 13 towers with over 2,900 residential units (comprising both market and affordable housing), introducing 300,000 square feet of commercial office space, and establishing a 70,000 square feet civic center. With a substantial budget of $1 billion, the project also integrates open public park spaces that meander through the rooftop areas of the redevelopment.
